As usual the first Christmas greetings came from Herb Dauber in sunny Hawaii. He wins the dependable award for the umpteenth time. The communication included a great picture of Herb and Joyce.
Others heard from included Dotty Meletzke and Jerry Walsh. They are currently in Fort Myers until May when they return to RI.; Cindy Glenn went to Iceland in May to visit friends from the GTMO days. She spent the rest of the summer in Iowa and traveling with her nephews through the west and Mexico. She is now back home in Fernandina Beach. ; Chuck Denzin's wife Rita just retired from the Social Security Administration and they will be moving from the Atlanta area as soon as they can unload their home there. Yet to be decided where they will light.; Charlie Grisvold is also in Ft. Myers as well as Liz and Alex Reid. Perhaps the NCPA group will take over that area of Florida. Right now I wish I was there! ; Bill Godwin is still kicking around Charleston but says he is getting pressure from his daughter to move to the Orlando area. Also had cards or emails from Jesse Smith, Bill DaRosa, Joe Bamba, and Bob Best. All are doing well and happy to announce they have made it another year.
On Christmas eve I decided to have a drink and use some carry-over minutes on the cell phone. I had some nice conversations reliving old times with Bill daRosa, Jesse Smith, Dick McCauley, and Gene Gossett. It was good to hear their voices and renew friendships.
Nona Jordan, most recently HMFIC for LantFlt, will began her retirement on Feb 3, 2006. Nona has 39 years of service almost exclusively in the Norfolk area. She was responsible for many an enjoyable trip to the LMR Negotiations training sessions in Daytona and other sites. I saw her in Williamsburg when I was working for the NAF folks. I looked like old man river and she looked the same as she did when Bob Fodrey introduced her in Jacksonville a hundred years ago. She says she will be doing some traveling....what's new!
As the new year begins I was thinking this morning about the changes that have occurred in my life in the past ten years. There have been a lot! And a lot in our community. I have counted 66 friends and colleagues whom I have dates of their deaths on the Field of Stone. There will no doubt be more this year. Tim Kerlee's son Sean holds a golf tournament each year with the proceeds going to the Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters in Norfolk and scholarships to Texas A&M in the name of Tim Kerlee, Jr. Tim Jr. was one of the 12 Aggie students killed in the bonfire tragedy in 1999. Details on the May 19 tournament are found by clicking here. This is a worth cause and Tim has ask that I help spread the word, especially to the folks in the Virginia area. Jan 16 2006
Pat Bradshaw has come out of retirement to be named the new Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Civilian Personnel Policy. She moved to the position on Jan 3. Pat had been director of CCPO Crystal before departing federal service in 1999. Since then she has been running a consulting business. This was reported by Marion Moss a few days ago. 26 Jan 2006
Hal Boyles checked in recently. He and wife attended an Elderhostel in St. Augustine lately and he was recognized by Jack Wilkerson, a participant who was once the Training Officer in BUPERS Hdqtrs. Personnel Office. He and wife Sheila were on their way to visit his former boss, Alex Reid and Liz in Fort Myers. Small World isn't it (but I still wouldn't want to paint it!) Picture of Hal and Jack on new pix of old folks page. March 13, 2006
Chuck Denzin made a short road trip in February. It was short because the weather in Tennessee wouldn't let me get out of town! We spent a few days just motoring and talking. We only got lost once or twice. The craziest was when we exited I-75 going west and an hour later ran back into while we thought we were still going west. Some pathfinders! March 13, 2006
Got an up date from Dotty Meletzke and Jerry Walsh recently. Seems the Fort Myers/Gulf side of Florida is getting its share of NCPAers. Pam Smith lives in Sarasota. She and her husband Curran recently had lunch with Dotty and Jerry. Rick Schultz was also there. He will be returning to his summer home in Portland, Maine soon. Pam and Curran tool in their motor home when it heats up in FL. Steve Gregg visited recently and George Wooten and Sandra came up from Naples. Steve and George played some golf (meaning Steve lost some bread!). Alex and Liz Reid are also in the area and are ardent golfers, with Liz being President of the Women's Golf Association. I'm promised pictures are to follow. March 27. 2006
Zane Schauer and wife Libby are both retired and living in Palm Coast, FL. He has an update on his recent past in th guest book and a picture of the two on new pix of old people.
April 11. 2006
It is October and I confess to doing a poor job of keeping up with the "heard from's". However since I got married in April I have had something better to do!
Recently Alex and Liz Reid were in Union City to visit relatives of Liz. We were scheduled to have breakfast together but I had to cancel for health reasons. Now turns out I have a gall bladder problem that will be resolved in the next few days.
Chuck and Rita Denzin have moved to Columbia , TN following Rita's retirement from Social Security in Atlanta. Chuck will be raising goats and mules...Rita will be raising Chuck!
Bill and Joanne DaRosa will be going to Maryland soon for the 50th wedding anniversary of Warren and Marian Hoffman.
Several deaths have occured this year. They are listed on the field of stones page. 5 Oct 06
A note from Bob and Sherry Gilson says that Don Musacchio has recently completed a bycycle trip from SanDiego to St. Augustine in about 60 days. He traveled alone. I have a low mileage bike (32Miles on it) for sale!
