Ron McFall former CPD at Keysport WA died December 29, 2000 of a heart attack.  He lived in Poulsbo, WA.  Ron had retired in 1995 on 28 years of service.  He was only 56.  I smart man, a good friend, and a hard roller.  His funeral was held on 5 Dec 00.  He will be missed by his many friends.
Cora Graves, retired Personnel Management Specialist, with the Secretariat and a friend of mind from CCPO-CC days, died on 24Jan 2001 after an extended bout with cancer.  Always a friendly face, sincerely wanting to help her friends, bosses, and customers solve their problems, she will be remembered all our lives...and missed anytime we gather.  Contributions may be made to Hospice of Northern Virginia, 6565 Arlington Blvd., Suite 500, Falls Church, VA 22280 or the American Cancer Society, PO Box 699, Vienna, VA 22180
Paul Andreas Gisvold, CAPT USN (RET) and former Deputy Director of OCMM died on January 26, 2001.  Capt Gisvold is survived by a son Charlie Gisvold, a former staffer with the OCPM Headquarters unit and a daughter Diane Gisvold.  Services were February 5, 2001 at Arlington National Cemetary.  The family asks that rememberances be made to the American Heart Association.
Jim Thompson died in his sleep on August 16, 2000..  Jim retired from the Orlando CPO on an early-out when the NTC closed.  He had been Head of Classification and Staffing and served virtually as a Deputy CPO for many years.  He had worked in a similar capacity in Memphis in the 1970's, and in Bainbridge before that.  Jim was the kind of staffer every CPO needed.  If he was responsible for it, you could be assured it would be done correctly, legally, and efficiently. His wife, Carolyn lives at 1713 Winddrift Rd. Orlando, FL. Thanks go to Chuck Denzin for reporting the rumor and Phyllis Roddy and Cindy Glenn, HRO JAX, for finding out the facts.  As Cindy said "looks like when you retire they forget about you."  It's up to us to make sure that doesn't happen.
Cyndee Keltie, a team leader with the NAVSEA HRO for a number of years died of cancer in December of 2000.  She had also worked at OCPM, and the Capital Region with Navy.  She was with OPM just prior to her death.
Norm Hill, 88, died in Oxnard, CA on February 17, 2001 following a brief illness.  Norm had lived in Ventura County for the past 58 years.  He was the CPD of CBC Port Hueneme for 39 years until his retirement in 1984.  Norm was also active as an official in football, basketball, and baseball throughout the state of California.
Ray Harrison, 77, of Portsmouth, NH died at his home on August 11, 2001.  Ray had suffered from Lou Gerig disease for some time.  Ray worked for the Naval Weapons Center, China Lake from 1952-1975, except for the years of 69-71 when he was the Director of Personnel at Subic Bay.  Ray was the CPD at China Lake from 61-75.  From '75-80 he was in Washington and retired as the Deputy Director of Civilian Personnel for Navy.  He was a graduate of Boston University with a bachelor's and Master's in psychology.  He received his degrees after serving as a combat veteran in WWII.  He was with the 78th Infantry Division at the Battle of the Bulge and the capture of the Remagen Bridge over the Rhine, among others actions.  He was an enthusiastic golfer where ever he lived.  Ray leaves his wife Rita and four sons, two stepdaughters and three stepsons.  Rita's address is 5 Beechstone #3, Portsmouth, NH 03801.
Marlyn Molinos, the significant other of Rick Schultz and a former Navy person who worked in the office of DASN Tony DiTrapani, in the Western Region, and then came back to DC, but recently with a civilian agency, died on Sunday 14 October 2001.  She had lymph cancer that had been in remission and then returned.  She collapsed at work on the 12th.  Marilyn was 48.  She ran in the Race for the Cure in San Diego in 1999 finishing in 39:26 and placing 63rd in the 45-49 category.  Rick's address is 4112 27th Road, Arlington, VA.
"Gerry" Fodrey, 79, died in an automobile accident in the Norfolk area on December 11, 2001.  Her husband Bob survives.
Phyllis Kennedy died 12/26/01 at Loma Linda Hospital (CA).  She had been in poor health for some time, but retained her feisty attitude to the last.  Phyllis was a Staffing and Classification Specialist at the Marine base in Barstow in the late 70's and 80's and was with NAD Hawthorne before that.  Reported by Bill McIlhenny.
Ross Evans the first Training Director of the ROCMM San Diego passed away on 6 March 2002 of complications of Parkinson's Disease.  Ross was 85 and had lived the past 70 years in the San Diego  Following retirement Ross became an avid golfer and traveled throughout the world.   Ross is survived by Margie, his wife of 60 years, his two daughters and four grandchildren.  Reported by his friend and co-worker Paul Reeder.
Bruce Clark Harrison, 69, formerly of Silver Spring, MD died April 24, 2002, at St. Thomas More Hospital in Canon City, CO.  Bruce was a personnel management specialist with the Navy for many years, serving all the way back to a Co-op Recruiter in NCPC.  A good staffing person who could be counted on to give you the answer you were shopping for...if it was possible.  He moved to Colorado in 1988 following his retirement.  He was active in bluegrass music, genealogy, computers and exploring the Colorado mountains.  He leaves his wife Merle, whom he married in 1955, a son Michael of CO, a daugher Anne of Poolsville, MD and a daughter Kathleen Lofton of Harpers Ferry.  Reported by Ron Willard a friend and co-worker.
Mabel Messer Klein Cherry, 86 died Monday July 1, 2002 in Sonora , CA.  She had been a resident of Daytona Beach, FL from 1976-1995.  She was a former position classifer for the Navy.  Reported by Joe Haydt.
Harry Saint Germaine died at his home in Romona, CA near San Diego on June 20, 2002.  Harry was 81.  He was the Director of the Branch Office of Civilian Manpower and its successors in London for many years.  Harry was a tank commander at the D-Day landings and was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart.  He was severely wounded and was hospitalized for several years.  Another good man gone.  Reported by Dennis Stewart.
Just learned of the death of Isadore "Izzy" Einhorn on 11 March 2002 in Philadelphia.  Izzy was a pioneer of Navy civilial personnel.  He started at the Navy Yard in Philly in 1935 as a Cu-1 messenger with a salary of $600 a year.  He retired 38 years later as a GS-15 CPO.  He Served at ASO Philly for many years and finished with a bang at Defense Attache Office Saigon, Vietnam.  Izzy would have been 85 this year.  Reported by Billy Meacham via Karen Miller and Herb Dauber.
William L. Bill" Smith passed away in September 2000.  He was 49 years old.  He worked in Navy personnel for well over 20 year, starting at OCPM.  He also worked at PWC Norfolk under Bert Cox as a LMR Spec, and later at NADEP Norfolk and HRSC East.  The conference room at NNSY has been named for him.  Reported by his friend Tom Rinehart.
Jimmy Griffith, Subic Bay, NavFac, NavSup staffer died on 9/11/2 of melanoma.  He was 75.   Jimmy served in the Marine Corps from 1951-58 with the rank of Captain.  He was a graduate of Central Missouri State.  He leaves his wife Connie, seven children, 17 grandchildren, and one greatgrandchild of which he was very proud.  Family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to Hospice of Garrett County,  PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550.
William "Bill" Mason died peacefully at his home in Bremerton, WA on November 19, 2002.  He was 80 years old.  A WWII vet he served over 30 years with Navy Industrial Relations posts including Puget Sound, Subic Bay, Washington, and Hawaii.  Bill was an accomplished violinist and also played the piano.  He is survived by Donna, his wife of 55 years.  The family asks that memorials be made to the Department of Veterans Affairs, Seattle.  First reported by Bill's friend and co-worker of many years, Joe Bamba.
Bruce Howard informs me that John Whittier has died in Arizona of Lou Gehrig's disease.
John Goodyard died March 31, 2003.  John will be missed by his many friends from the Training Command as well as our CivPers veterans of Vietnam.  He was a man who knew the meaning of honor and loyalty.  It was always a pleasure to be in John and Irene's home.  Irene remains at the home address found on the directory page.
Leo Rickwa reports that Catherine Thom, former Classifier with CCPO San Diego and Tom Harris NSC San Diego CPD have passed away.  Anyone having more details let me know.
Vince Prantl age 65 died of cancer at his home in Pensacola 15 December 2003.  Vince worked in the Washington headquarters for many years and had been retired for ten years.
Mahala McMillan former Employee Relations Specialist with CCPO Pensacola passed away at her home on February 17, 2004.  As she wished she was surrounded by her friends and family.  A courageous lady with a great sense of humor.
Jean M. Becht former Wage Section Chief with OCMM and a DOD Policy Staffer Passed away in Silver Spring, MD on 27 March 2004.
I sadly report that Betty Edmundson, my wife of 43 years age 67, died on 22 June 2004.  Betty had been in failing health for over 4 years.  We have 3 children Neil in Pittsford, NY, Libby, in Jacksonville, FL, and Gena, in Austin, TX.  She supported each of the 12 moves we made during our marriage.  Eleven years here in Tennessee was a record.  Thanks to all the friends who have sent messages.
Joe Wilkinson, Director Pacific Field Division, Head of OP-14 Labor organization, Director Southern Field Division, and long time Director Norfolk Naval Shipyard, died 6/26/04.  Joe was 79.  Another legend gone.

Amy Catenaccio, daughter of Frank and Trudy Catenaccio died of an apparent stroke on 12/3/04.  Amy was student at University of Virginia Vet school at the time.
Bill McIlhenny died on 1/1/05 in Leesburg, FL.  Bill was 74.  He had been diagnosed with a blood cancer an had undergone chemo.  It killed the cancer but left him vulnerable to an infection that took his life.  Bill was a native of Hawaii and a graduate of the University of Hawaii.  He worked in Hawaii, Palau, Guam, Philippines, Vietnam, Hawthorne, NV, CA, DC, and Florida.  His wife Roberta survives.
Tommy Taylor former director of CCPO Philadelphia died on 6 Jan 2005.  Tommy was a good friend with always a kind word for everyone.  We shared many pleasant hours together during the quarterly meetings of the 10 independent CCPO's in the '70's.

Ralph Reeves Classifier with ROCMM Philly and ASO died suddenly on 23 Dec 203.  Reported by Frank Pfeiffer.
Hal Nelson formerly with BIRO Subic died in 2004.  Details unknown.  Reported by Val Herman.
Jim Rich formerly Head of Labor and Employee Relations at Puget Sound Naval Ship Yard passed away in December 2000.  Charlene Hill a former HRO employee at Puget Sound NSY died in 2002.  Rerported by Jacqueline Evans.
Bill Paz passed away 7/13/04 in Los Angeles. Bill had been in failing health since a series of strokes in 1998.  His wife Anita died two months earlier from cancer..  Bill was a giant in our business.  This information was found by long-time friend Bill Meaut and confirmed by Mark Paz.

Pat Ross former special assistant to DASN died of cancer 16 March 2005.  Burial was in Harrisburg, PA.  She was 59.

Tom Muir Passed away on 31 May 2005.  He suffered from lung cancer.  He leaves his wife Diane.  Services will be Friday, June 3 at 11 AM ath the Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home Braddock Road.

Bill Pankonin, former head of the Pacific Command Civilian Personnel program for DOD, died Aufgust 12, 2005 in Tucson, AZ.  Bill held the job with it's heavy emphasis on intergovernmental foreign labor arrangements for 13 years during the height of Vietnam and afterward.  He is survived by his wife Thelma.
Curtis Yant passed away on Oct 29, 2005.  Curt was formerly Director of Civilian Personnel Charleston Naval Weapons Station.  He is survived by his wife Delores and two daughter and a son. 
Owen Russell formerly of Mayport CPO died on December 12. 2005 in Covington, GA.  He was 80.
Harley Jones former CPO at Annapolis, Guam, and NSC Bremerton died December 26, 2005 in Madrid, Spain.
Jean Marie "Jeanne" Payne lost her two year battle with breast cancer on January 21, 2006.  She was 41 years old.  At her death she was with the Office of Civilian Management under the Chief of Naval Personnel working out of the Naval Annex.  She had also worked for NavAir and Pax River.
Bill Waterworth passed away on 1 Feb 2006.  Bill was a long time rep of the NX organization.
Jim Bigham, NWS Charleston, NTC Orlando, Subic, died on November 19, 2005 in Mena, AK.  Reported by Richard Farley.
Jim Joiner formerly of the Portsmouth NSY dide on 10-15-05.  Reported by his friend and former subordinate Ron Willard.
Carolyn Berry former PSO and Headquarters staffer died on September 13, 2006.  She had 36 years of service when she retired from the Military Sealift Command in 2003.
Sam Demps long time DEEOO at NAS JAX died on 29 Sep 06.  Sam was 80.
Randy Riley co-inventor of the "China Lake project" died on 12/15/06.  Randy was 69.
Billy Meacham passed away on 12/26/06.  His death was reported by Bill Meaut.
Wilbert Bond, former DEEOO with Navy Memphis, died Feb. 2, 2007.  Wil was President of the Tennessee NAACP from 1977-95.  He was 81.
Paul Shaver, former classifer with Kings Bay Sub Base, died Wednesday, March 14, 2007. Paul was 70 years old and retired from the Navy civpers community in the 90's after 30 years in the field.  He was living in Fernandina Beach and burial is in Bristol, VA.  Reported by Cindy Glenn.

William Gray retired head of Civilian Personel Division of Office of Naval Research died 9/21/07.  He was 79.  Reported by Ron Williard.
Beverly Thompson (Petitmermet) passed away on March 19, 2007. She started a career with DON HR in the 1940's as a classifier and worked shipyards from New York to Charleston.  Later she worked in the west coast AWCOs, and ROCMMs.  She was 85.  Reported by Paul Reeder.
Claire Phillips long time Budget Analyst with OCMM who later served as Financial Officer with the Naval Civilian Personnel Center died on 18 November 2007.
